McLean Neuropsychiatric Treatment Center

Why We Built This Center

Treatment-resistant depression needs more than awareness. It needs capacity, clinical judgment, and systems that can deliver complex care reliably.

Access to Specialty Interventional Psychiatry

McLean Neuropsychiatric Treatment Center was built for patients with depression, OCD, and complex mood disorders who have not improved adequately with standard treatment. Many of these patients have tried multiple medications, experienced hospitalizations, and spent years searching for a clinical setting that takes their illness seriously.

The bottleneck for patients with treatment-resistant depression is no longer whether treatments exist. The bottleneck is whether patients can access a high-quality specialty center that can safely deliver resource-intensive, evidence-based interventional treatments. That is the gap this center was built to close.
Our goal is to provide careful psychiatric evaluation, honest education about treatment options, and access to evidence-based interventional treatments when appropriate. We do not believe every patient needs a procedure. We believe every patient deserves a serious assessment of what has been tried, what has not been tried, and what treatment path is most likely to help.

What the Evidence Shows

We use standardized symptom rating scales including the PHQ-9, MADRS, GAD-7, and Y-BOCS to measure patient progress. The following figures reflect published clinical evidence for the treatments we offer.

~40%

What the Evidence Shows

Approximately 40% of patients with treatment-resistant depression achieve remission with a full TMS course. An additional 30% experience clinically meaningful partial response.

STAR*D and real-world TMS outcome data

~50%

Esketamine Response Rate

In FDA registration trials, approximately 50% of patients with treatment-resistant depression showed clinically meaningful improvement with esketamine compared to placebo.

1 in 3

Patients with TRD

Roughly one-third of patients with major depressive disorder do not achieve meaningful improvement after four adequate antidepressant trials combined with psychotherapy.

These figures reflect published clinical trial and real-world outcome data, not clinic-specific results. Individual outcomes vary based on diagnosis, prior treatment history, medical factors, and treatment adherence. No treatment guarantees a specific result.

Teaching and Training

McLean Neuropsychiatric Treatment Center is an approved clinical training site for two academic medical institutions. We are affiliated with the MedStar Health Georgetown University GME Consortium, Department of Psychiatry, hosting psychiatry residents on a Geriatric Depression and Interventional Psychiatry rotation.
We are also a clinical training site for Lincoln Memorial University College of Osteopathic Medicine, providing medical students with supervised clinical experience in interventional psychiatry and the treatment of treatment-resistant depression. Our educational mission reflects our belief that advancing the field requires training the next generation of clinicians in evidence-based, patient-centered care.
